I'm from head office and I'm here to help

We received an important delivery to our house on Christmas Eve. The white van man was parked on our driveway not apparently doing anything.  I stepped out into the winter weather to enquire if I could help.
He explained that his machine was linked to a computer and his delivery to me was scheduled for five minutes time so he would have to wait for the time to pass before his machine would produce the screen for my goods for me to sign.

I cannot imagine that this process is any help to senior management and I'm sure it does nothing to inspire loyalty or job satisfaction for white-van-man.

If you can offer a reason for this procedure please let me know.
