It's coming round to the time of year when we go on a sponsored walk.
For the past three years we have walked the eight miles across country between Wigley Orchard and St Michaels caravan parks.
Each year we have raised about £1500 for charity. Last year the money was split equally between Kemp Hospice and Healing Hands Network and we intend to do the same again this time.
The walk this year is on Sunday August 26th starting from Wigley Orchard and heading east to Sapey Old Church and, subject to weather and ground conditions we plan to go out across the fields and through Harpley and to return via the public roadways along Hollybush Lane and Wolferlow. The walk is approximately four miles each way.
In normal summers I have warmed to the task by walking a couple of miles to The Baiting House at least twice a week during May, June and July. This year I haven't done any proper walking at all. The pouring rain has put me off and my legs need exercise to boost confidence that I can walk that distance.
We have just started to promote the event to caravan owners on both parks through our newsletter
and if you are interested in joining us please call me on 01885 410331
for a sponsor form. We will set out at about 10.00 am and get back in
time for some refreshments and maybe some entertainment.
The following
day is August Bank Holiday - a day of rest.
Here's a photo of my Great Grandfather which came to light recently.
We think it was taken in the 1860s. He probably did a lot more walking then me - but not so much for charity.
