Panic buying

I've never quite reached £120 filling my Landrover's fuel tank but at £1.47 per litre  it's getting pretty close.

Today I took mother to lunch in Clun and when I left home my gauge was already telling me I would have to stop somewhere to refuel. Passing busy lines on forecourts in Tenbury and Ludlow we arrived in Clun and enjoyed a good value meal in the White Horse (Clun Pale Ale at £2.30 a pint plus a special discount of £5.50 off the food for two main courses ordered at the same time) It's probably worth hanging about outside and looking for a companion to eat with if you are on your own!

We actually had £6.75 extra for puddings - justified by the discount!

After lunch we headed directly to the fuel station. I parked next to the diesel pump and set off filling my tank. An attendant attended and advised me that there had been a rush on fuel so they were limiting customers to £30 each.

I asked if the pump would cut off automatically. He said "no" I would have to control the trigger. But as we approached £29 the pump began to slow. And slow. And slow. And when I arrived at £29.97 it stopped altogether.

It wasn't the £30 limit being applied. I had just purchased the last drop of diesel in Clun.
